I'm back!

Yes, after a three week absence your favorite teenaged Caniac blogger is back in action! (No thanks to those accursed College Board tests I've been subjected to in the past three weeks - all five of them lasting over 3 hours...)

And, I find that I haven't really missed anything over the past weeks... Laviolette's our coach without a doubt... Russia won the World Championships over Canada... Sean Avery busted his spleen (and even though it is a serious injury, I laughed...)... Penguins are the East Champions... and Dallas is staving off elimination by the Red Wings...

So, yeah... nothing really exciting happened. And it probably won't for a while.
But I'm least I'm back to post about the boring-ness! YaY?

Canada wins gold

Canada won the Gold Medal in the World Championships, being propelled forward by Cam Ward's win, Eric Staal's goal, and Justin William's assist.

Ottawa took a 2-0 lead in their series against Buffalo (Yes!) with a 4-3 win in 2OT Saturday night. It was the first time in their franchise history that they won both of the first two games in a series. The third game starts at 7pm tonight.

Anaheim tied Detroit in their series with a 4-3 win in one less period than the Ottawa game. (For those bad at math, that would be 1OT...)

That's it, really.

Ominous smoke

You know you're not paying attention when you don't notice the foot and a half of smoke floating ominously in your living room.

And I'll just leave that at that.

Today, Canada advanced to the Gold Medal round of the World Championships. Cam Ward got the win and Eric Staal got a goal.

Detroit won last night to take the lead in their series.

Ottawa stunned Buffalo 5-2 on Thursday night. They had a pretty nice three goal third period.

Currently, I'm watching the second Buffalo-Ottawa game. Buffalo leads 1-0. Booooooooooo!
Er... Make that 2-0. Double boo!

Worlds news

World Championship news:

USA totally kicked Germany's behind 3-0 on Saturday. Erik Cole had assists on all the goals! YaY Erik!

On Sunday, Eric Staal scored two goals in Canada's win.

And today, sadly, USA lost to Canada 6-3. Cam Ward was in goal for Canada, and John Grahame for the Americans for two periods. Commodore had an assist, and Eric Staal had two assists for the Canadians.

NHL news:

Rangers lost their series with Buffalo. The only series yet to be decided is the Detroit/San Jose series, Detroit leading 3-2.

That's it for now.

*EDIT 6:32 PM* Gah! Not the best power forward evah! From the Canes website:

Erik Cole also had a rough time, as he had to leave the game with an apparent lower-body injury after an unusual play in the second period. With Canada's Jamal Mayers bent down to pick up his dropped stick, Cole inadvertently skated into him, causing Cole to crumple and immediately be helped off the ice.
And I thought the offseason was miserable before...

Stupid offseason.

Mike Commodore and Eric Staal got assists and Cam Ward got the win in Canada's win over Belarus.

Anaheim won, wrapping up their series with Vancouver.

Rangers and Buffalo play tonight, their series is tied 2-2.

Yep... nothing exciting... stupid offseason. And there's still numerous months to go... *sigh*

Boring.

Canada beat Slovakia yesterday. No special Canes news on that front.

USA then beat Slovakia today. Hutchinson got a goal, and John Grahame got the win.

Anaheim can knock Vancouver out of the playoffs today.

Yeah... Sorry for the skeleton posts, but I am officially in the "I'm bored" stage of the off-season. Maybe if things get interesting I'll post some commentary.

But that's an if.

Canes scoring at Worlds

The World Championships are in full swing:

On Friday, Erik Cole had a goal and an assist in USA's victory over Austria. Andrew Hutchinson also got an assist, and John Grahame got the win.

On Saturday, Eric Staal had a goal in Canada's win over Germany.

And today, Chad LaRose had a goal in USA's 5-1 victory over Belarus.

Anyways... I just got done watching the Rangers 2OT win over Buffalo. Good game to watch.

Erik Cole assists and Sid Crosby propaganda

Erik Cole got an assist in the Team USA Exhibition win over Sweden!

In less-awesome news, I watched the Sabres beat up the Rangers last night. It was painful because I want the Avery/Jagr tandem to fail miserably... but I don't want Buffalo to win. Every goal is like another pointy object stabbed into my arm - it won't kill me, but it hurts a lot.

Anaheim also beat Vancouver.

Don't think the NHL's ad campaign is working? Here's a conversation I had this morning in Spanish class:

Eric: Man, I am so tired from watching basketball last night.
Me: Basketball?
Eric: Yeah, the NBA playoffs.
Me: NBA? How about the N-H-L?
Eric: ...
Me: The National Hockey League...?
Eric: Oh, right. I know Sidney Crosby is the best... and that's about it.

*sigh* I suppose it's good that the main hype has reached the masses...

Assorted News

The Hurricanes website has a good article on the World Championships, and the Canes that will be in them. Good for people who have any idea what they are. *cough*Jake*cough*

Also in the Canes news file today, Ray Whitney had a successful shoulder surgery, and is expected to be able to play for the regular season.

In the Southeast Division file, Scott Mellanby announced his retirement today.

The second round of the playoffs is set, Vancouver squeaking in last night in a Game 7. More on that when I feel like it.
