The Canes signed Shane Willis to a one year deal, $450,000 in the NHL, $115,000 at the AHL.
When I saw Willis' name, I recognized it from somewhere... turns out he was taken by the Canes 88th overall in 97, and played in games for three seasons for the Canes, before being traded for Kevin Weekes with Chris Dingman. (Thanks to hockeydb.com for the info.) It looks like he's gone back and forth from the NHL to the AHL throughout the years, his best stats being from 98-99 with the New Haven Beast of the AHL with 81 points in 73 games. For some reason he played the last season in Switzerland and the Swedish Elite League, finishing with 21 pts on the year, and 6 goals/11 points in the playoffs.
Looks like a pretty good pickup by the Canes.
