Well, the 2006 Draft is over, and the Canes appear to have made out pretty good, even without a first-round draft pick.
They did not trade Jack Johnson for the Jordan Staal pick, as was the circulating rumor.
Here are their draft picks:
2nd round (# 63) - Jamie McBain (defenseman, 6'1" 190 lbs)
3rd round (# 93) - Harrison Reed (right wing, 6'0" 178 lbs)
4th round (# 123) - Bobby Hughes (center, 5'10" 170 lbs)
5th round (# 153) - Stefan Chaput (center, 6'2" 190 lbs)
6th round (# 183) - Nick Dodge (right wing, 5'10" 175 lbs)
7th round (# 213) - Justin Krueger (defenseman, 6'2" 205 lbs)
Yeah... Apparently the Canes were really lucky in getting Hughes - a player that was ranking high but dropped because of injuries.
Drafts are weird because you never really know if it'll work out until five years later.
There were some trades yesterday, but they really don't interest me all that much. If you want to see what they were click here.
Anyways, Chris Pronger wants a trade for "personal reasons".
Sure...
Roberto Luongo is surprised about the trade yesterday. He thought his contract talks were going somewhere, when the Panthers just shipped him off to Vancouver.
Nothing else has really happened otherwise.
