Canes win, Play tonight

Canes won over the Thrashers 5-2.

Canes looked pretty good throughout the whole game. Cam kicked butt in goal, stopping a season-high 42 shots.
While the Thrashers put a lot of shots on the board, not a lot looked that potent, to tell the truth. The Canes only put 18 shots on, but those shots tested the Atlanta goalies. (So much that Lehtonen was pulled in the second.)

The Canes took a lot of unnecessary penalties (10 to be exact, not counting the penatlies at the very end of the game where Atlanta was looking for a fight and Garnet Exelby just slamming into Cam Ward without cause), and they are extremely lucky that Atlanta's power play is just as crappy as theirs is.
The Canes penalty kill was (and had to be) great. Allowing only one goal per 20 minutes of penalty kill time is pretty good.

Whitney and Brind'Amour had two goals, with Walker getting the other. The Walker-for-Vasicek trade just keeps looking better and better.

Canes play Montreal at home tonight. Huet is reported to be starting in goal.

Erik Cole stats: 2 assists
On the season: 2 goals, 6 assists
